Description

PetersenDean is a California-based roofing and solar installation company that emphasizes financing and sales over solar leasing.
PetersenDean, Inc. is the largest privately-held solar power company in the United States. It occupies a unique niche in the field, as a dual roofing and solar contractor. PetersenDean designs, constructs and installs solar energy systems on residential and commercial buildings of all types, with roof remodeling services available as well.

The company is currently headquartered in Fremont, California. However, it is active as a solar contractor in five states: California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas and Florida.

PetersenDean was founded in 1984, by young entrepreneurs James Petersen and Joe Dean of San Jose, California. Petersen is currently the CEO, while Dean is Senior VP of Re-roofing Operations. Petersen was just 20 years old when he and Dean decided to start their own roofing repair and construction company, based on their summertime experiences working for another Bay Area roofing company.
It was in 2006 that PetersenDean branched out into solar energy. Since then, they have designed and installed more than 10,000 residential and commercial solar energy systems. Thanks

in part to new California regulations that will require solar panels on all newly constructed homes, PetersenDean expects 2019 to be its biggest year ever. The company is projected to sell and install between 11,000 and 12,000 rooftop solar systems in California alone.

Unlike most solar companies, PetersenDean does not offer solar leases or Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs). They are exclusively involved in sales, through their Solar4America program. They have established relationships with numerous lenders to help clients finance their solar purchases. Solar loans obtained through PetersenDean require no money down and no payments in the first 12 months.

Originally, PetersenDean used solar panels manufactured in China, but they've since changed course and are purchasing their equipment from manufacturers located in the United States.

PetersenDean installs approximately $250 million in residential and commercial solar projects annually, but they expect to eclipse that figure by a significant margin in coming years as the company carries out their rapid expansion plans.
